spoken english program

The spoken English program is an initiative to teach children in remote villages in India to speak English well enough to carry a conversation and build confidence.

Benefits:

  • Learning now will give them a head start when school starts 

  • One-on-one learning will improve accuracy in speaking 

  • Will help them in the future for jobs

  • When you become a volunteer,  you will reach a level of self fulfillment 

  • Great for interactions with others 

  • Students gain confidence

Process:

  • If you are interested, you will get paired with a student that is most compatible with you

  • We will be there to introduce you for the first class 

  • Based on your level of comfort, you will get 1 or more students

  • You can use your own, or a given syllabus to teach your student

  • When they are ready for their exam, let us know and we will have someone to give the exam.

Step by step guide:

Volunteer teacher:

  • Attend the Introduction session

  • Fill in the droplet form on website

  • Take a safety training

  • Complete and submit waiver form

  • Attend the first introduction session with USK4W volunteer and assigned student

  • Go over safety rules with student and guardian

  • Start the teaching (teach what student like)

  • Fill in student tracker form on website

  • Record the hours in personal diary and then update on website tracker form

  • Willing save the material on common drive shared with USK4W for everyone’s use

  • Prepare student for exam

  • Contact student supervisor in case of call issues.

Sponsor:

  • Attend an Introduction session.

  • Complete safety training

  • Complete and submit the waiver form

  • Take all legal responsibility

  • Fill out the sponsor form on website

  • Collect students

  • Get parent approval and sign in waiver form

  • Fill the student application from website

  • Assign supervisor (1 among 20 students)

Student:

  • Parent take all legal responsibility and sign the waiver form

  • Attend first class with guardian and volunteer

  • Go over safety rules with volunteer teacher

  • Complete the given assignment

  • Seat in the room where guardian can watch

  • Make sure surrounding is noise free

  • Inform volunteer or supervisor of any future absentee

  • Prepare for exam (learn what you like)

  • Enjoy the experience

FOR VOLUNTEERS

  • Needs to commit for at least 6 months of teaching 

  • Can create own syllabus or use our materials 

  • Commit at least 1 hour a week for class

FOR SPONSORS

  • Needs to provide students with facilities to call

  • Should be in contact with a teacher from a school

  • Should have a person who will take care of the program in india

  • Needs to be available to introduce teacher and student

FOR STUDENTS

  • Needs to be in grades 4th-8th

  • Should have a quiet place to have class

  • Needs to have the will to learn

  • Should have 3 years of previous english class (can be in school)

  • Teacher and student need to commit at least 1 hour a week for class
